Surf for More MathLesson 3 - Renaming Numbers
Use this activity to encourage your child to have fun on the Web while learning about renaming numbers. GoalRename numbers with up to five digits.
Builds UponStudent Book pages 32-33 Instructions for UseBase Blocks lets your child model numbers using base ten blocks. To use Base Ten Blocks, click on the blue icons at the top of each column to add base ten blocks. When you add blocks to the work area, the total number automatically updates in the area to the left of the workspace. Drag a base ten block one column to the right. The base ten block breaks apart to show how the smaller blocks were grouped to create the larger block. To group blocks to create a larger block, click and hold down the mouse while dragging a rectangle to lasso the blocks. When you have selected the correct number of blocks, the blocks will join together to create the larger block. The newly grouped block can then be dragged into the column to the left. If base ten blocks are moved into the wrong column, or if there are too many blocks in a column to represent a number, then the area to the left of the workspace does not display a number. The number reappears when the blocks are rearranged to define a number correctly. Click the "Show Problem" button to start an exercise. Group blocks that can be combined to create a larger block and move the blocks into the correct columns. When you have represented the number correctly, the number will appear in the area to the left of the workspace. |
