Instructions for Use

Area of Rectangles and Squares helps students relate the length and width of a rectangle to area.

To use Area of Rectangles and Squares, drag both blue buttons along the sliders to illustrate that changing the length and width of a rectangle, changes its area and perimeter.

Notice how the Web page uses the area rule for rectangles to calculate the area. Count the squares in the rectangle to see if the area is correct. Check many different rectangles to see if the rule is always correct.
