Instructions for UseInteractive Calculator allows students to practice a method to multiplying decimals. To use the Interactive Calculator, start by pressing any decimal tenth - try 0.4. This number will appear in the window of the calculator. Press the 'X' button on the calculator, and press 12. Press the ' =' button on the calculator to show the answer.
Base Ten Blocks allows students to visualize the area represented by the multiplication of the two decimals. To use Base Ten Blocks, click the place value backdrop to decimals. Click on a block and drag it into the workspace. Select a block by clicking on it. Once selected, the block can be moved to any location on the workspace. To remove a block, drag it to the recycling bin. Click on the tools on the top panel to select and drag, rotate, lasso blocks to group them, break larger blocks into the next size down, or glue smaller blocks to form the next size up. |
